This Morning viewers were left touched by a ‘heart-wrenching’ story of true friendship on Thursday.

Sitting down with hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Joel – who is autistic – revealed how his life was changed when he met his guardian angel dog Caddy.

Explaining how the canine helped to change his life, the teen’s life was transformed when he met the assistance dog, saying: “He’s changed my life a lot. if you had told me a few years before I had Caddy, I wouldn’t believe you.”

Talking with Phil and Holly about the transformation his life underwent, Joel and his mother explained how the animal had given him a whole new lease oF life – allowing him to smile for the first time and go outside.

“Before I met Caddy I could never go outside,” Joel told the pair, smiling as he recalled the moment.

And showing how important his four-legged friend is to him, when Philip asked what life was like before he met Caddy, Joel simply said: “It puts tears to my eyes when I have to talk about that.”

And it would seem the heart-warming friendship between the teen and his beloved dog melted many a viewer’s heart.

Taking to social media in their droves, fans of the show tweeted about how inspiring and heart-warming the bond between boy and animal was.

“Awwww the little lad and his dog on #ThisMorning Just amazing what animals can do. That’s why I [love] them. Lovely story,” wrote one

With another agreeing: “just amazing and heart wrenching. awesome awesome dog and yoing man [sic].”

And another viewer said Joel and Caddy’s story had brought a tear to his eye, with @mrdavidmay writing: “amazing Dog amazing lad…..made me cry with happiness this. Brill xxx.”

And summing up the general mood of viewers, one tweeted: “What an amazing, inspiring young boy.”
