Every little helps in the fight against diabetes and heart disease – Grimsby Telegraph

CLEETHORPES shoppers were treated to some intergalactical intervention recently at Tesco’s in Hewitts Circus recently.

For local community champion for Tesco’s Jenny Follan was helping to raise funds for Tesco’s chosen charities Diabetes and the Heart Foundation with a Star Wars-themed tombola stall.

With help from some of the Lincolnshire Heroes Star Wars characters and Holli Kellett, who is the regional fundraising manager for Yorkshire and the North East, the force was with them all!

Phil Stocks and his team of ‘heroes’ were also in-store to help promote the release on DVD and BlueRay of Rogue One.

Phil said: “We always have a lot of interest when we appear, the adults as well often want a picture or a selfie.

Jenny said: “These Lincolnshire Heroes are real heroes, they have come today and gave their time for free to help our charities and they are so good with the children and adults for that matter!”

And just the presence of some of those characters physiologically forced you to buy a ticket!

Amongst the Lincolnshire Heroes were Princess Leia, Rogue Jedi, Storm Trooper, Jedi, Darth Vader and some little Jawas.

Hollie said: “Jenny and her team here in Cleethorpes are doing a fabulous job, they have raised £13,000 for both the charities.

“I have been involved in a three three-year plan to raised funds for these two charities and sadly it comes to an end at the beginning of 2018.

“As a whole Tesco UK hope to have raised a staggering £30-million over the three years, and some of that money will go towards prevention of both diseases,” she added.

The Star-Wars-themed prizes on the tombola stall had all being ‘acquired’ by Jenny, at a very good price, including out of this world ‘Mar’s Bar Easter Eggs.

Hoping to win a prize was five-year-old George Hudson, who won two!

Another lucky winner was Maureen Chandler who was with her husband Brian.

Having not won a prize at all was , seven-year-old Freya Allen who got her own back by arresting a Storm Trooper! And Mavis of Cleethorpes couldn’t resist the charms of Darth Vader.

Jenny added: “It was a lovely afternoon and plenty of happy people enjoyed a bit of fun while doing a good job supporting diabetes and the BHF.”

And it was a lot of good-hearted fun by some really good hearted people, proving once again that when the force is with you, anything is possible for charity.
