She’s spoken in the past about suffering from chronic illness M.E. and now Martine McCutcheon has revealed she has been diagnosed with Lyme disease as well.
The 40-year-old posted a beautiful picture of herself on Instagram on Wednesday, in which she made the latest revelation about her health.
Celebrating losing a stone in weight on the Cambridge Weight plan, Martine says her illnesses cause her lose weight slower than the average person.
She wrote: ‘Here’s my silly little head feeling all giddy and happy because I reached my 1 stone target today on the @cambridgeweightplan. I’m SO thrilled.
‘My loss was a tiny bit slower than the average person but to be honest I expected that as many diets/food plans didn’t work for me at all as the lymes disease and m.e can really play havoc with how your system works. [sic]
‘Plus my consultant Donna stressed that my health is the most important thing so I took things a little more slowly whilst feeling more energised and even with health issues I’ve still managed to do it!’
She continued: ‘Only 5 and a half weeks and My BMI is in a much healthier range -and on my step of the plan I love that I can still have my green juices, porridge and real food.’
M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) is a long-term, fluctuating, neurological condition that affects the nervous and immune systems.
And Lyme disease is a bacterial infection which is spread to humans by infected ticks, which has varying results.
Bella Hadid, Kelly Osbourne, Avril Lavigne and Yolanda Hadid all have the condition.
In 2011, Martine was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, after she was confined to a wheelchair, sank into depression and stayed at home for a month because she did not want to see anyone.
Martine, who sprang to fame aged 18 playing Tiffany Mitchell in the BBC soap opera, told how she collapsed 20 times and piled on weight as medics were baffled by her condition.
The actress, who has just completed a television move The Home Office, became so ill she could not work and was declared bankrupt in January 2013.
She told The Sun on Sunday at the time: ‘I’ve had the worst seven years ever. Life felt like hell every day. It’s just been one thing after another. I have not been in a nice place in my head, financially nor with my career.’
The actress also said that she considered suicide, saying: ‘I would pray to God that I wouldn’t wake up. I would just say, “Please, whatever this is, it is making me feel so bad, just let it kill me.”’
